Family and Company History
The Monier family migrated to Texas in 1845 from Alsace Lorraine, France, and settled in Castroville. Members of the family ran a mule freight line in the late 1800's and worked for the railroad but farming and ranching has been our mainstay. The current family ranch in Tarpley was purchased in 1913.
Fred and his son Leighton Monier built the water systems on the ranch, including a 14’ windmill on a metal tower that was made on site with a hand drill. Leighton handed down this knowledge to his son Gayle, who in the early 1970's formed Bandera Drilling Company with his brother-in-law Walter Blumrich. Gayle also worked under Austin Smith and Justin Linney, old time drillers from Medina, TX. By running the old Alamo cable tool rigs Gayle learned that constructing a good well takes time, patience, and hard work.
Gayle later added pump and windmill repair to their list of services and worked on old hit and miss engines and pump jacks.
John started learning the business from his dad at a very young age, and began working full time for the business in the late 1990's. To reflect this family tie, the company name was changed to Monier & Son, Inc. Gayle discontinued drilling and we now specialize in pump installation and repair.

We take great pride in our family’s local roots and reputation, as well as in our determination to offer high quality products and service.
